The Lawn Care Guide

Lawn Care

When you have a lawn, no matter how big or small it is, you want to make sure that it looks its best all summer long. This means you do have to do lawn care. The effort you put into caring for your lawn really shows in the final result and you will have neighbors complimenting you on your good work. How green your grass is depends to a large extent on how much water you give it, but you can help this along by aerating the soil, ensuring that the soil has adequate moisture and regular mowing.

If you are concerned about the color of the grass, this will depend on the type of grass seed you use and how much direct sunlight the lawn receives. Shaded areas will need a little more care as the grass will rot quickly leaving brown patches if you give it too much water. If you have any structures on the lawn or there is a lot of shade from buildings or trees, this can also result in different colors of grass on the lawn.

Foot traffic is something else you have to be careful of. When people are constantly walking over the lawn, especially in one particular area, this will compact the soil and the grass leaving the imprint of a pathway. The compacting prevents the air and water from reaching the roots, which means that these areas may need to be aerated more often than others.

When watering the lawn, the best time of day is early morning. The water can reach the roots before it evaporates. If you make a regular watering schedule, then you can make sure the grass is getting what it needs without being soaked and then allowed to dry out completely before you give it more water.

Weeding is another aspect of caring for a lawn. If they are left untended, they will overrun the grass and spoil the look and color of the lawn.
